Team NYC Pro Karate wins National Black Belt League World Championship
New York, New York - Team NYC Pro Karate wins National Black Belt League World Championship
On December 27, 2005 in Buffalo, New York, things got really hot when Team NYC Professional Karate Team literally came off the streets of New York to win the National Black Belt League World Championship.
The three-man fighting team featuring Hakim Walker, Ross Levine and Jadi Tention, came in as a wild card team. With no ranking or seed, they had to fight every team in this single elimination tournament.
Hakim Walker, an anchor on any team in the world, was asked to be the point man in this three-man match of cumulative points. In other words, go out and get the team a lead. Hakim was more than up to the task by not losing any of his matches.
The middleman, or should I say, barely a man, was Ross Levine. Ross just recently became eligible to compete in the men’s division. He sent a message to everyone that he is a true phenom – a legitimate Rookie of the Year.
Finally, the captain, Jadi Tension, was there to anchor the team. He shut down every one of his opponent’s best fighters by easily outscoring them, thereby assuring Team NYC of the World Three-Man Team Fighting Title.

NYC Professional Karate Team web site launch at NYCPROKARATE.COM
NYC Professional Karate Team (NYC Pro Karate) launch web site at WWW.NYCPROKARATE.COM The NYC Professional Karate Team® was founded under the leadership of Dr. Michael Willett (Grandmaster) and Tico Flores-Kyle who noticed that martial arts was lacking its full recognition as a sport from the mainstream. In order to garner such attention what was needed was a team to launch a full-fledged initiative. How? By gathering the best of the best within their region; those who have earned the title: Grand Champion, Champion, and Hall of Famers.

The structure of our team is built in such a way that we have the ability to meet people where they are in terms of physical fitness and their perceptions or misgivings of it.
We pride ourselves on being a diverse team who mirrors the image of the city in which we all live. While New Yorkers we are notorious for the term: “Forget about it”, we are aware of the alarming statistics that reflect we have taken this term literally with regard to proper diet and exercise. We feel it is our responsibility as proven leaders in our sport, to penetrate our school systems which have inadvertently cut Physical Fitness as a requirement, Corporate Institutions who spend on an average $3 Million on emergency healthcare and disability insurance for their employees who are physically unfit, and community organizations—to extol the virtues of Martial Arts.
